Produced, recorded and mixed by Majlo.
Majlo is the result of the meeting between two of the Swedish folk scenes most interesting musicians. Since the start of their duo in 2008, Maja Långbacka and Samuel Andersson have explored the combination of somewhat peculiar yet catchy pop songs with acoustic folk instruments, drums and live electronics.
With Majlo, the folk music tradition of liveness is brought to a new level. The live experience is just as important as a good record so Maja and Samuel always put a lot of effort and focus in being present on stage, making the performance very much a visual experience as well as musical.
Majlo creates music that leaves room for its listener’s own experience. With intelligent texts filled with lyric thoughtfulness that brings the songs very much to a here and now, the musical result transports the listener to a raw and melancholy landscape where terms such as “folk-pop” or “pop-folk” give way for something original and incomparable.
Maja Långbacka (born in 1984) is known as one of the most interesting and talented young folk singers in Sweden today. With her uncompromising, strong voice she aims to erase the division between folk music and other genres, and she doesn’t like to be labelled. After the release of the first album with her trio Punsch, a journalist in the British magazine Rock ‘n’ Reel wrote, “Her voice is pure, clear, warm and free from unnecessary ornamentation. She makes it sound so easy, and it is difficult not to give in to the magic of her voice.”
Samuel Andersson (born in 1979) is a multiinstrumentalist and composer known for blending different genres and through the integration of live electronics make something new and modern out of it. Samuel has been touring with bands like Hedningarna, Godrun, Boot, Punsch and of course his one-man band project Loop-Tok. One of Samuels’s goals is to bring new light to the traditional music, making it a music of today. Seemingly having achieved that goal already, he’s now making it the music of tomorrow as well!
